Wyoming Youth Services was founded in 1981, after community members expressed concerns about unsupervised after school hours—and oftentimes engaging in high risk behaviors, including use of drugs and alcohol. The City and schools joined together to address this important issue and Wyoming Youth Services was the product of their collaboration. At that time, the organization consisted of just one staff member who provided mentoring and informal counseling for a small group of youth.
Over the last 35 years, WYS transformed into a social services agency whose mission has been to strengthen our community through prevention, support, and volunteerism. In a partnership with the City of Wyoming, Wyoming Schools and the community at large, WYS facilitated and ran outreach programs for at-risk youth, engaged hundreds of students in Service Learning projects, facilitated a curriculum based After School Program, and provided counseling and support for hundreds of youth and their families during their time of need. Through outreach, prevention, counseling and promoting volunteerism, WYS has supported the Wyoming community for decades.
